Anchored by a 3,230 square metre Safeway Supermarket, the centre also includes 2,280 square metres of specialty stores, 325 marked car spaces and two free standing pad sites occupied by KFC and Safeway Plus Petrol.

The site was part of the Kingston Downs Residential Estate and had been set aside for future commercial development.

The previous owner had approval for a 2,000 square metre development.  Lascorp entered into an agreement to acquire the site and increased the allowable Gross Lettable Area to 5,000 square metres.  Despite considerable resistance from some sections of the City of Greater Geelong, the project was approved based on a recommendation of a Ministerial Panel in January 2004.

Ocean Grove Marketplace is pegged for a re-development which will commence in late 2013.

The property has been sold to listed property trust SCA Property Group as part of a portfolio transaction of 7 shopping centres for $135.8 million.
